TYRES

The only thing between you and the road is four postcard sized bits of rubber so it is important that your tyres are safe and designed for your needs.

We have the largest range of tyres available in West Auckland and stock the worlds best brands. We will only sell you tyres that are designed for your driving needs. We have tyres to suit drivers that just use their cars to pop to the shops or those that are always on the road driving long distances.

We are always looking at new brands to add to our extensive line up and we are happy to spend the time with you to ensure the right product is being fitted to your car.

TYRE SIZE

On the sidewall of a tyre along with the manufacturer's name, there's always a set of numbers and letters that relate to the size of the tyre. A tyre size will typically look like this:

195/65R15

The '195' relates to the width of the tyre in millimetres.

The '65' is the ratio in height of the sidewall expressed as a percentage of the width.

The '15' relates to the size of the rim that the tyre will be fitted to.

TYRE PRESSURE

Maintaining the correct tyre pressure  is vital to getting the most out of your tyres.

Tyre pressure can also have an affect on the fuel economy, handling and ride comfort of your vehicle.

There is no set standard for tyre pressure and you should consult a tyre specialist about the correct pressure for the tyres on your car.

Under inflation will wear the inner and outer edge of the tyre excessively whereas over inflation will wear the middle of the tyre.

It is recommended that your tyre pressures are checked every 2-4 weeks.

TYRE AGE

The age of a tyre can have a considerable effect on the tyre performance. As a tyre ages the rubber starts to harden causing loss of grip particularly in wet weather conditions. Cracks and perishing may also start to become visible in the tyre.

Every tyre is manufactured with a date stamp showing the week and year it was manufactured. This is stamped on the sidewall of the tyre. The first two numbers indicate the week of the year. The last two numbers indicate what year the tyre was manufactured.

For example: The below tyre has a stamp of '1117'. This indicates it was manufactured in the 11th week of 2017.

How do I get the most out of my tyres?

The easiest way to get the most out of your tyres is to follow these 3 steps:
  1. Tyre Pressures - By keeping the correct tyre pressure your tyres will wear more evenly.
  2. Tyre Rotations - We recommend rotating your tyres to different locations on your vehicle every 10,000kms. This will help with more even tyre wear and not having just the front tyres wearing out all the time. Rotations are subject to vehicle configuration. Contact us for more details.
  3. Wheel Alignments - Alignments keep your wheels pointing in the correct direction. If the alignment is out your tyres will wear one of the edges faster than the other. We recommend a Wheel Alignment every 15,000-20,000kms.
